Nairobi billionaire businessman Chris Obure on Friday returned to Senteu Plaza in Kilimani under police protection, marking a dramatic comeback to the prime commercial property from which he was evicted last year following a protracted ownership and tenancy dispute.
A contingent of police officers accompanied officials enforcing court orders as Obure and representatives of SBS Dunhill Group (EA) Limited regained access to the Lenana Road property, bringing a new chapter to a legal battle that has attracted significant public and commercial interest.
The development follows a major legal victory for SBS Dunhill Group after the Environment and Land Court dismissed an application seeking to overturn proceedings and decisions made by the Business Premises Rent Tribunal (BPRT) concerning the disputed property.
In a 10-page judgement delivered by Justice Charles G. Mbogo, the court found no merit in a Notice of Motion filed by Ajeetkumar C. Shah and other applicants who had sought to quash tribunal proceedings and stop the tribunal from handling matters related to Senteu Plaza.
βThe Court finds no merit in the Notice of Motion dated 5th August 2025,β Justice Mbogo ruled, directing that each party bears its own costs and ordering that the matter be marked as closed.
The ruling effectively upheld SBS Dunhill Groupβs position in the dispute and removed a significant legal hurdle that had stood in the way of the companyβs efforts to regain control of the property.
